KOTOBUKI means “Life Long Health & Prosperity.” Calligraphy of “Kotobuki” is often hung in Japanese homes during the New Year. This big, bold kotobuki was likely brushed for one of the patrons of Zekkai’s temple (he was abbot of Kokoku-ji). Zekkai was known for his dynamic and creative brushwork and this is a fine example of his Zen calligraphy.
