Artist's Statement: "In the past year and a half, I've made a complete change in attitude towards printmaking. I approach it in smaller editions using a reductive process, where only one plank of wood is used in printing several colors. Because a single plank of wood (block of wood) is used to create the various patterns or form of colors, the block is completely destroyed. Therefore, each edition cannot be reprinted. Like painting, it becomes a one-time experience. I simply move on to the next image, that is usually at hand.
This particular image, "Moonlit Path", is an exception. Because of the large edition of 75 prints, I used three planks of wood, making eight colored runs for each of the prints. In producing the 75 prints, I have made 700 or more runs, all hand-done, of course. The complete process took three full days and nights. MY choice of paper had to be heavy enough to do the subtle embossing of the rock forms in the foreground.
