Image of the goddess Kichijoten. Kichijoten is called the goddess of wealth, and is a deity that farmers who seek rice, rain, or children will worship. She stands on the back of Oinari. Oinari has the image of the fox and is the messenger to the gods. The two figures together is the esoteric blend or synthesis of the Shinto and Buddhist traditions in Japan. Finely carved and painted, with embellishments of metal defining a halo and hair ornaments.
