The brush holder part of this yatate has an overall design of a warabi, which is a fern shoot design. The brush holder is connected by a cord through a bronze ojime to a small open mouthed pot which would have the silk threads and powdered charcoal particles that become ink when a few drops of water is added. The outside design has the warabi and chrysanthemum pattern.
