This beautiful work of Japanese lacquer and silver (純銀, jungin ) was created in the Meiji period for the aristocratic sport of falconry, Takagari. The finials, joints, and central perch are covered in detailed relief of chrysanthemums. In the center of the bar would have sat a hawk, falcon, or eagle. Brushed in gold on the body of the lacquer, is a pattern with boats riding the waves, carrying bushels of rice; symbolizing prosperity.

A truly unique work, most likely specially commissioned by a patron.

Rare and of the finest quality, similar works can be found in few museums.
