18th century Moghul painting of an aristocrat reading a book of poetry. This is a painting of an aristocrat at his leisure in a garden comfortably perched in a fruit tree reading a book of poetry. It is a romantic image of a young man in a luxurious environment in a quiet moment. The Moghul aristocrats lived opulent lives with access to the great cultures of India and the Middle East, especially Persia. This image in some sense is similar to the genre of Persian miniature painting that is as fine as jewelry.
