19th century nephrite jade Chinese snuff bottle. Jade is a marvelous stone with various internal colors and density. This bottle is a good example of the natural character of a stone. The carver decided what to carve and what to leave. The large dark area on and in the stone was left as an expression of eccentric abstraction, just like the work of a contemporary painter.
