17th-18th century Tibetan silver butter lantern. The foot of the lantern is in lotus form. It rises to a mid level element with vine and floral incised designs. The bowl of the lantern has floral lines bordering the astamangala (the eight designs of Buddhism).

Size: 6.25 inches high, 3.5 inch diameter.

Paul Spheeris founded the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s conservation department and was its first full-time art conservator.  He also served as the Curator of Oriental Art for the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  He was an avid collector throughout his life and acquired a fine collection of Asian antiques.

In 1999 , he was invited by Shanghai Fandali Frame Co., Ltd. to Shanghai as a senior art consultant. At the same time, he was employed by Shanghai University Academy of Fine Arts to teach oil painting restoration courses.
Member of the London International Oil Painting Restoration and Protection Institute
Paul taught courses in art anatomy, sculpture, Chinese art history, sketching, and ceramics at Indiana University and St. Ghent's College in Pasadena, Texas.  In the 40- year-old oil painting restoration work, he has repaired more than 2,000 masterpieces such as Rubens, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso , and the American Indiana Daily in the 1960s and 1970s. "And the authoritative "Star" magazine reported on Paul's achievements, calling him "the man who created the miracle."
