17th century white nephrite bixie pendant. This is a small carving of a bixie, which means chimera, which is a design form that evolved out of the Middle Eastern cultures. This piece was probably inlaid in another object, such as a coromandel screen, box, or something of that type, because it has a very flat back. It was not developed on the back because the back was not to be seen. It has been fitted with a very beautiful modern 18k yellow gold bail.
